About Niyaz



Niyaz Saghari is a filmmaker based in Bristol, UK. Originally from Tehran, Iran, she studied Cinema at the Art University of Tehran and holds an MA in Animation from the University of Wales, Newport.

Her practice is focused on documentary and experimental filmmaking, often using Super 8 film and DIY techniques. The recurring themes in her practice include marginal cultural lives, memory, and cross-national experiences and histories.

In addition to filmmaking, she works as a documentary editor, organises and programmes film screenings, runs workshops, and teaches.

Her films have been screened internationally, including at the Ann Arbor, Oberhausen, and Alchemy Film Festivals. She has also presented work in group exhibitions at Nunnery Gallery in London, Ashkal Alwan in Beirut, and Microscope Gallery in New York.
