The Scientist

The idea begins from an old interest in playing with transparency, fluidity and changing lights. There were shots in a film we did 2 years ago that we drowned a model of a car (with 4 people in) in a Fish tank .The shots were looking so mysterious .A drowned family with fish swimming by and the woman’s hair waving in the water.Begining with this visual interest, I started thinking about floating body parts in jars, an image of a woman’s head in a jar of some colour full liquid, looking at the camera and quite unexpectedly starting to talk to the audience. At the same time, visiting a friend in an old house they have recently moved, I came across a treasury of old cookeries, lamps, fans, radios and many daily but old objects that really looked like some characters.
Then there was series of photography from these objects. (Macro lens is bliss) and gradually I found that a Laboratory seems like a perfect place to play with the visuals I have in mind. Adding to this was a sound Sketch (as my friend calls it) of ambient sound of some machines working and foot steps of someone walking around and flipping some papers. I could see a Scientist walking around his lab and checking the results of his experiments, looking at his notes and writing down facts and figures. The theme of a Scientist and his lab links with many other old interests in Horror films and Science fiction mostly the Bride of Frankenestein, The Fly, The Return of the Fly, The Tingler, and The Spider Woman. Now it seemed that I need a woman to shape a drama.


Long story short, I am developing the idea about a Scientist who is doing some experiments on a woman. I am inventing some machines and equipments that he uses for his experiments and I am using a mixture of drawing and pictures of old object. Working on design part, I let my mind open for new ideas to come. I hope I can come up with some rough story boards.
